9th September 2026 Windsurfing: Wrabness Wind Direction: NW Wind Stength: 5/15 Surf / Sea State: smooth Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 19.05 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 22.25 mile (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Wednesdy 9th September – Windsurf ** River Stour at Wrabness – sunny periods. Foil – 19.05 knot max, 16.94 knot ave., 8.53 knot hour, 15.55 knot mile, 36.04 km.,11.02 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Tushingham Bolt 6.5m and Sailworks Flyer 8.2. The forecast was a tad hit and miss today a NW breeze around 15 knots dropping during the day so I decided to risk a trip into deepest Essex, so Mag and I left Felixstowe at 8.30 and headed to Wrabness to make the most of the 11.20 high tide. I emptied the van when we arrived so Mag could have her breakfast and set up my foil board and took it too the river, the tide was already pretty high and there was a good breeze blowing up the Stour from Mistley, enough for me to rig my 6.5. Launching around 9.30 with a few already out at Bradfield I quickly realised I had rigged too small as I set sail diagonally across the corner towards Holbrook creek, I did get up and flying but it was patchy at best so after a couple of runs I headed in to rig my 8.2 as Mag was about to set off on her walk. I did have a cracking couple of long runs past Holbrook Royal Hospital School but the wind was all over the place:( The tide was turning I think so I decided to beat up river for a quick sail with the 3 wingers and 2 windsurf foilers sailing from Bradfield but the wind was easing back so I headed back, sadly I lost the breeze just short of my launch beach and struggled for the last bit, my poor old hands did not like holding the large rig in light conditions and I was please to get in! Then the highlight of the day, after de-rigging my 6.5 we enjoyed a yummy chicken sandwich in the van before packing up the rest of my kit and heading for home. Not my best session on the Stour with the NW a very gusty direction :( With the wind dropping light in the evening I had a quick drive down to Felixstowe Ferry to catch the sunset which was nothing special!
